It’s been 6 years and more since I had my son Lucas. It still feels like the best day of my life.

Just to give you a little background, I was living in California at the time and planned to have a hospital birth in my hometown of Thousand Oaks. In my 7th month of pregnancy, something shifted. I decided I wanted a home birth and I felt like it was the right thing for me. I talked to my best friend and soul sister Christy Cannon who was a NICU nurse at the time. As always, she was incredibly supportive and began to help me create the birth of my dreams. She spoke to me about the different options and helped me find a midwife so I could birth at home. Christy offered her assistance as a nurse and took on the doula role for me. I felt relieved and it all flowed organically - it was beautiful!

I never planned to birth my son at home. As my pregnancy progressed, I knew instinctively it was the right thing for me to do. It was my path, and I will always be so happy I chose to have a water birth at home!

The day came and I remember I ate a brownie and suddenly my contractions began. I began to experience the process of natural labor. Christy made her way to my house and as soon as she was there, I felt at ease and surrendered to the work of natural labor. I was nervous but her presence brought me comfort and reassurance. With Christy’s guidance and calming presence I felt relieved and empowered to do the most amazing thing ever: Birth my beautiful son Lucas.

It was a wild journey as my labor continued to progress through the long night and my son finally arrived at 8:07 the next morning. It was intense but having Christy by my side helped me feel calm and confident with her love and support. I knew that everything would be all right. Having her say she was proud of me meant the world, and I felt like we got through it together. She was by my side through it all and taught me how to use my breath to cope with the discomforts of labor and trust the process.

My son arrived safely into this world healthy and beautiful and I felt like the luckiest mother! Christy helped me with my first breastfeeding experience, which gave me the guidance and confidence I needed to begin that important process of nourishing my baby. It all felt so natural and perfect.

I never knew I was capable of such an AMAZING THING! The good energy in my home and Christy’s love and support along with my team of midwives made it all feel possible! That is one of the most important things I learned from my Birth…that having the right people there to guide you is everything! And I also learned to let go and surrender to the natural birth process.

I have never trusted anyone as much as I trusted Christy in that moment, and I will be forever grateful to my Christy for helping me bring my son Lucas into the world! Christy was the most amazing nurse, doula, bestie, soul sister and birth guide a mama could ever ask for.

Christy is my son Lucas’ Godmother and will forever be connected to us! She has shared with me that my Birth is the reason she became a midwife. That incredible day forever changed both of our lives!

Always in Gratitude,

Words cannot describe how much our experience with Christy at The Midwife and More means to our family. We were fortunate enough to meet Christy at my husband’s work, where she introduced herself and told us about her practice as a midwife. We had no idea what a blessing this decision would be and its beautiful impact on our family. When we started meeting with Christy, we immediately felt cared for and seen by her. Christy would arm us with knowledge during each meeting to be more prepared for our upcoming birth. She took the time to listen to, teach, and get to know our family personally and truly cared about what we had to say. She brought us in and built a professional, trusting relationship with us that I would like to say evolved into a friendship.

On the day of our birth, she was very responsive to our calls and helpful when preparing to go to the birth center. The lights were calm and dim when we arrived, and flameless candles brought warmth into the space. She had prepared essential oils and had a speaker for us to play our music. The birth center was also spacious, with plenty of room for walking and allowing visitors. She set the scene for the beautiful birth of our first son. She also offered many different methods to find comfort such as the shower, birthing ball, tub, and more.

Throughout the entire birth center process, Christy was by my side, bringing me comfort and peace. When my son was being delivered, she caught him in the tub and immediately handed him to me, which was the most amazing feeling. Christy also offered expert after-care, which is vital for first-time moms. I knew I was in excellent hands throughout the whole experience. We then had our postpartum meetings in which Christy came to our home and offered suggestions on newborn care to help ease us into a comfortable breastfeeding and sleeping routine.

We now miss our weekly meetings with Christy and having her light in our lives! I can proudly say that the birth of our son was one of the best days of my life, and I can’t wait for our next baby to do it all over again with Christy at The

Midwife and More! I cannot recommend her and the experience she delivers enough. She is a true picture of the name of her practice as she will not only give you midwifery services, but also adds in so much more.

When my husband and I stumbled into Christy Cannon's childbirth class at Los Robles Hospital, we had no idea how much of an impact she would have on our lives. From the get-go, Christy radiated warmth and knowledge, instantly putting our first-time parent nerves at ease. We were on a mission for a natural birth experience, and Christy became our ultimate guide. Her classes weren't just about breathing techniques and pain management – they were about empowerment. With her genuine encouragement, she made us believe that we could conquer anything childbirth threw our way.

Christy became a constant presence in our lives, offering advice, reassurance, and genuine friendship as my due date approached. And when our little bundle of joy finally made her grand entrance, Christy was one of the first people to meet her. Looking back, the only regret I have is not having Christy in the delivery room as my doula. Her calming presence and unwavering support would have been the cherry on top of an already incredible experience. But despite that, I am forever grateful for Christy's guidance, wisdom, and friendship. She didn't just teach us about childbirth – she helped us embark on the most beautiful journey of our lives. And for that, we'll always be thankful.

If you're expecting and have the chance to meet Christy Cannon, don't hesitate for a second – she's a true lifesaver.

EMILY & JUSTIN

We’ve been telling all of our friends how special and amazing our birth experience was at the Women and Infants Pavilion (WIP) at Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC). After hearing good reports about the WIP at AVMC, we decided to travel 1.5 hrs there for our birth, and we are very glad that we did.

Practically everyone we interfaced with, from the security guards, the labor and delivery nurses, our midwife, and the postpartum team treated us well and were helpful and knowledgeable. We’d never done this before and weren’t sure what to expect, and were pleasantly surprised with how well taken care of we were.

We are writing to let you know how our expectations were exceeded in particular by our nurse midwife Christy Cannon, who helped make our experience wonderful, and provided expert care and attention to us and our beautiful newborn daughter. Christy really shined as a caring and compassionate midwife. Upon first meeting her and introducing myself, I handed her our birth plan. Christy looked at me and said she would read it. Her authenticity and genuine care in her eyes enabled me to believe she would read and take to heart our requests. My wife Emily notes that when Christy introduced herself to her, many of my wifes uncertainties vanished. Emily was and is incredibly grateful that “we just happened” to get Christy as our midwife. The entire birth Christy was attentive, confident, and friendly.

During conversation, we learned that she was a nurse with NICU for 20 years, and recently transitioned to midwifery. This news washed over us like a wave of peace; we knew we had afearless and competent midwife, able to recognize and handle any unexpected surprises.

Once our daughter had fully emerged from the womb, Christy immediately and expertly placed her upon my wife’s chest, and the moment was pure bliss. With the umbilical cord attached (per our request) and delivering every ounce of fresh lifeblood to our newborn daughter, my wife wept for joy as she met the person she’d been growing and nourishing for 10 months.

Every step and procedure after that went well, and there was a strong sense of joy and peace in the room. My wife’s biggest fear in giving birth wasn’t the pain or the discomfort. It was not knowing whether the medical staff would honor our birth plan. Thanks to Christy and the team, it was evident that they did their very best to honor each of our birth plan requests. Having advocates like this empowered my wife and enabled her to have an extremely positive birth experience, despite having no medication or pain relief at all. This was incredibly meaningful to us and allowed us to stay in the moment when our beautiful daughter was born, soaking up every precious second with her rather than worrying about our requests being fulfilled. Christy’s presence contributed to our peace, comfort, and morale throughout the entire labor and delivery process.

We can’t emphasize enough that Christy’s willingness to listen to our needs, then work on our behalf to meet them was meaningful to us and facilitated the best labor and birth we possibly could have imagined. We’ve told many of our friends and peers about the amazing experience we had at the AVMC WIP. It was truly an amazing experience that we’ll never forget, and we departed home with joy and thankfulness.

Please relay our thankfulness and the comments herein to Christy.
